43 arrested in social media forged banknote operation

Policia Nacional have detained 43 people in raids carried out across the country who are suspected of buying and selling counterfeit banknotes via social media networks.

Officers carried out raids as part of a Europol operation in 18 provinces, with arrests made in regions including Alicante, Asturias, the Balaeric Islands, Barcelona, Cádiz, Madrid and Malaga.

Two people detained in Huelva are understood to have been responsible for the production of the forged notes, with the other 41 people detained for knowingly purchasing fake banknotes.

Computers, forged currencies and handwritten documents concerning the sale of the fake money were all discovered during the raids.
