AEMET issues red and amber alert for heatwaves across Spain

Meteorological agency AEMET has issued a red alert for a heatwave across the region today.

Temperatures in excess of 43 ºC are forecast for parts of the Costa Blanca, making this the hottest day of the year – and the hottest part of Spain.

Temperatures in excess of 37 ºC are forecast across the Canary Islands as well.

Whilst coastal areas will be slightly cooler, inland will see the thermometers rise significantly.

People are being advised to avoid exposure to the sun during the hottest parts of the day, and to remain hydrated.
