Politician Alberto Rodríguez has announced he is to leave Podemos and the Congress of Deputies after being stripped of his seat last week.
On Friday the President of the Congress of Deputies – Meritxel Batet – suspended his voting rights after confirmation from the Supreme Court that his conviction for assaulting a police officer during a protest in 2014 meant he was disqualified from the house.
Earlier in the week however laywers in the Congress said that Mr. Rodríguez could remain in his position.
Podemos has announced it’s intention to launch legal proceedings against Ms. Batet, calling the action “prevarication”.
Yesterday, Mr Rodríguez maintained his innocence and said he was prepared to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights if required.
