Coronavirus: Mixed doses scheme to get go ahead after trials prove positive outcomes

Public health officials have approved a plan from the Ministry of Health, that will see those aged under 60 who have received their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine be offered a second dose provided by the Pfizer vaccine.

The decision came after preliminary research by the Carlos III Health Institute found that mixing the two vaccines was both safe and also effective.

Around 670 volunteers who had already received a first job of AstraZeneca’s vaccine participated in the “Combivacs” study, with some 450 given a Pfizer dose.
