La Graciosa announces plan to become Spain’s first smoke free island

Authorities on the island of La Graciosa have announced plans for the island to be the first smoke free island in Spain.

Mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancor, launched the initiative which aims for all public spaces to be smoke free.

In his presentation he announced that nearly 60 million cigarette butts had been lifted from the islands beaches in the last decade.

It’s hoped the island will be the first in Spain to be designated smoke-free.
