Negotiations begin with US Government over digital tax plans

Economy Minister Nadia Calvino has said the government is in negotiations with the United States to find a fairer system for taxing tech giants at a global level.

Her statement came after the US government slapped a 25% tariff on imports from Spain over it’s Digital Services Tax. It then immediately suspended the duties to allow time for negotiations to take place with Spain, and five other countries who have been included in the trade row.

Spain has approved a 3% digital tax on revenues from digital services, such as advertising and data sales by large tech firms. The tax was expected to bring the government about 1 billion euros in 2021.
