Nuclear reactor shut down after transformer fire

The Spanish nuclear safety regulator – the CSN – has informed the International Atomic Energy Agency of an alert which caused one of the reactors at the Trillo Nuclear Power Plant to shutdown automatically on Saturday night.

According to the report, a fire was discovered in the main electrical transformer at the power station, which initiated the emergency systems.

There was no leaking of any radioactive material, and no one was injured in the incident, which was graded at 0 on the international scale for nuclear emergencies.
