Paella gets protected status

One of Spain’s best known dishes – the Paella – has been awarded a protected cultural status.

The dish from the Valencian region has been awarded the status in an effort to promote, study and research the properties of the meal, as well as to safeguard it for future generations.

As part of the announcement, a series of helpful hints were published, including ensuring an even heat source, as well as never stirring the rice while it is cooking.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Generalitat in the Valencian region.
