Sanchez announces plan to outlaw prostitution

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has pledged to outlaw prostitution.

During a speech at the 40th PSOE party conference in Valencia, Mr Sanchez said the practice “enslaved women”.

In 2019, PSOE published a pledge in its election manifesto to outlaw prostitution, in what was seen as a move to attract more female voters.

Prostitution is currently unregulated in Spain, however pimping or acting as a proxy between a sex worker and a potential client is illegal.
