Three men who helped Barcelona terror cell jailed for up to 53 years

Three men who helped the terrorists who carried out the 2017 Barcelona terror attacks have been jailed for up to 53 years.

After a three month trial which started in November, the National Court convicted Mohamed Houli Chemlal and Driss Oukabir of being part of the terrorist cell, handing down a 53 and 46 year sentence respectively.

The third, Said Ben Iazza, was handed eight years for collaborating with the group.

They were also convicted of the manufacture and possession of explosives and terror-related damage, however were cleared of 14 counts of murder.

Despite the sentences, judges said the pair would not serve more than 20 years behind bars.
