Turkey looks to strengthen military cooperation with Spain

Turkey has said it is considering buying an aircraft carrier and submarine from Spain.

The NATO ally said it was looking to enhance the current cooperative relationship between both countries, after Turkey was a key supporter on the construction of a Spanish naval assault ship.

The statement was made whilst prime minister Pedro Sanchez was visiting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara this week.

President Erdogan went on to say that further agreements over other military hardware may be signed.

During the visit, six agreements between both countries were signed covering renewable energy, disaster response and sports.
